Commemoration of the Ending of World War One

The Flower Festival staged over the last weekend by the Churches of St Peter's, St James and Mount St Bernard Abbey was a wonderful event attracting a great number of visitors, and Charley Parish Council expresses its thanks and admiration to the teams who brought this to fruition. The theme "Service and Sacrifice" was interpreted by the teams to invoke the contrasts of life at home and in the trenches, the emotions of sadness, grief and despair felt by the generation of those years but also of hope and gratitude of our present time for what they experienced. The photographs heading this page do not do justice to the reality of the displays and more will be posted in the near future on the Gallery page.

A bonus for visitors was the chance to get close to the World War Two Secret Transmission site in St Joseph's Field and hear the story of those years of conflict and the part played by RAF 80 Wing there. Our thanks to the members of Charley Heritage Group who made this possible.
