As a part of the national Heritage Open Days scheme Charley Parish Council is working with St James the Greater, Oaks in Charnwood, St Peter's, Copt Oak and Mount St Bernard Abbey, to present a joint Flower Festival to commemorate the approaching centenary of the ending of World War One. Fortunately, a fire which broke out on Tuesday afternoon on the Leics and Rutland Wildlife Trust land off Abbey Road was quickly spotted and reported to the Fire Brigade. They fought for several hours to keep the outbreak under control and maintained a presence overnight and during today.
